Jack C. Wagner

Jack C. Wagner, 76, of Butler died at 8:08 a.m. Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 10, 1928, in Butler, he was the son of Laverne and Grace Haugh Wagner.

During the Korean War, he was a sergeant in the Marine Corps and received a Purple Heart. He belonged to the Bantam Marine Detachment, the Lyndora American Legion and the VFW Post 249.

He had been a Butler Township police officer and retired as a supervisor for the Pennsylvania Probation and Parole Board, where he worked from 1964 to 1988.

Mr. Wagner was a life member of the First English Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Slovak Club, Masonic Lodge 272 and the Butler County Law Enforcement Association.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and birdwatcher and enjoyed his German shorthaired pointers.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Hockenberry Wagner, whom he married Dec. 24, 1951; four daughters, Mrs. Chad (Diane) Green Sr. of Prospect, Cindy Bransfield of Milford, Del., and Mrs. Stephen (Grace) Wright and Tracy Tucci, both of Butler; a son, James Wagner of Connoquenessing; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He also is survived by three brothers, Elmer Wagner of Saxonburg, Laverne Wagner Jr. of Butler and Robert Wagner of New Kensington; a stepsister, Kathy Flick of Butler; and a stepbrother, Larry Dorenkamp of Butler.

Two sons, a daughter and a brother preceded him in death.

WAGNER - Friends of Jack C. Wagner, who died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Friday atYOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First English Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Dollhopf officiating. Burial will be private.Military services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Military honors will be accorded at the church by the Bantam Marine Corps League following the funeral service.Information available at www.youngfuneralhomes.com.
