Brian W. MacMurdo

Brian W. MacMurdo, 73, of Adams Township passed away Friday morning at St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

He was born in Ellwood City on Aug. 1, 1936, to the late Paul Wesley MacMurdo and Viola Norean Coates MacMurdo.

Brian graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1954, and went on to graduate from Geneva College in 1958 where he earned a bachelor's in industrial engineering.

He married his wife, Vida L. Mariotti MacMurdo, in 1957 and began his career working for Jones & Laughlin in Pittsburgh's south side as an industrial engineer. He continued on to become president of Johnson Bronze in New Castle, and plant manager for LeCreuset in Charleston, S.C. and Tuscarora Plastics in New Brighton. He ended his career as office manager for Oakland Anesthesia in Pittsburgh and by working as a consultant for the H.B. Maynard Co. for Bell South in Atlanta and the Canadian Post Office in New Brunswick, Canada.

Brian had been a member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Ellwood City, where he served on parish council and was a member of the interim committee that united St. Agatha and Purification BVM into the Holy Redeemer Parish, earning him the Hand of Faith Award.

He was a member of St. Killian's Parish in Cranberry Township. He also had been a past member of the New Castle Country Club, the Connoquenessing Country Club and the Kiwanis Club of Mars.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and two sons, Beth (and Andrew) Verone of Beaver, Michael D. (and Mary) MacMurdo of Center Township, and Paul I. (and Maureen) MacMurdo of Cranberry Township, and six grandchildren, Madeline and Brian MacMurdo, and Kate, Molly, Meg, and Luke Verone.

Also surviving are his brother, Dr. Stanley D. (and Lois) MacMurdo of Cranberry Township; his nephew, Matthew (and Lauren) MacMurdo of Mars; and his niece, Deborah (and Paul) Grubb of Greensburg.

Several in-laws also survive, including a sister-in-law, Sondra (and Paul) Ammeen of Hilton Head, S.C.; two nieces, Jill (and Tim) Phillips and Kelly (and Jon) Lambert; and three nephews, Tray (and Lisa) Vedock, Tod (and Jen) Vedock, and Charles (and Tara) Ammeen.

<B>MACMURDO</B> — Friends of Brian W. MacMurdo, who died July 16, 2010, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>TURNER FUNERAL HOME</B> of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.A Mass of Christian burial will be observed at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Redeemer Parish Church, 415 Fourth St., Ellwood City.
