School, homes darkened in power outage
Almost 2,000 West Penn Power customers in Connoquenessing Township found themselves without power this morning.
Among those customers is Connoquenessing Elementary School in the Butler Area School District.
Brian White, school district superintendent, said the students had already arrived at school when the outage occurred.
Emergency generators were used to power the school during the outage.
White said the district’s plan was to bus the school’s 250 students to the intermediate high school in Butler Township if power company officials predicted an extended outage.
But White said at about 10:30 a.m. that West Penn Power officials reported the outage was caused by issues at a substation, and that power would return relatively soon.
White made the decision at that time not to bus Connoquenessing students to the intermediate high school.
More information on the outage will be available in the Tuesday edition of the Butler Eagle.
