Mary Margaret "Margie" Sullivan McLafferty of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, passed away at her home Monday at the age of 82 years, surrounded by her loving family.

Margie was born in Paris, Texas, Dec. 29, 1923, the middle child of three children. As a young girl she grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and was a proud 1947 graduate of the University of Texas.

She married her beloved husband, Larry McLafferty on Oct. 22, 1949. During their early married years, they lived in Butler and in Hobbs, N.M., Odessa, Texas, and Tulsa, Okla., and finally immigrated to Calgary in 1959, which became their family home.

Margie became an active member of the Calgary Oil Wives Association and the Calgary Golf and Country Club, where she enjoyed playing golf with her husband and their many friends. Margie enjoyed playing in her bridge clubs, loved to drive her 1969 Buick convertible and became affectionately known as "Parnelli."

She was a volunteer at the Calgary Fanning Centre for 20 years. She was a talented artist who loved painting family portraits, landscapes and enjoyed Saturdays with her friends at Steven's Highwood Beauty Salon.

Margie was known for her faith in God, her generous Irish spirit and southern charm, and placing friends and family before herself.

She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Larry McLafferty; her parents, Walter and Leona Sullivan; and her brothers, Walter Sullivan Jr. and Jeremiah Sullivan.

She is survived by her five children, Marcus McLafferty (Darlene), Mary Margaret Brajcich (Gary) of Spokane, Wash., Daniel McLafferty (Nancy) of Martinez, Calif., Patrick McLafferty and Timothy McLafferty (Tammy).

She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Carly, Lindsey (Sam), Matt, Emily (Jon), Leah, Ben, Meighan, Maura, Bailee and Chalsee; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to acknowledge a special thanks to her caregiver, Prescila Atienza, and all the medical professionals for taking such good care of Margie.

MCLAFFERTY — Family and friends of Mary Margaret "Margie" Sullivan McLafferty, who died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 16th Ave. NW, Calgary.Prayers and rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 640 19th Ave. N.W., Calgary.A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Bill Stephenson as celebrant. Graveside services will follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to a charity of the donor's choice.
