Alice Jane Yeager
Alice Jane (Yenkala) Yeager, 85, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Petrolia and Kepple's Corners, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday.
She was born in New Kensington and raised in Butler, where she graduated from Butler High School in 1942.
She was a bookkeeper for Heckett Engineering and later for HARSCO until her marriage to Clarence D. Yeager Jr. on May 8, 1954, in Butler.
She served as secretary of the Petrolia Borough Council for several years in the early 1960s.
She was an active member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Petrolia, and the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church of Chicora, where she served in many volunteer capacities. An avid bridge player, she was a member of the Cavendish Club, and several bridge groups in Pennsylvania and Virginia.
She is survived by a son, Gerald D. Yeager and his wife, Nancy P., and granddaughter, Tracy Jane Yeager, all of Alexandria, Va.; three sisters, Dorothy Yenkala and Rose Ann Muto, both of Butler, and Charlotte Rench, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Robert Muto, and sister-in-law, Patricia Yenkala, both of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Clarence D. Yeager Jr., on April 30, 1996; three brothers, Edward, Albert and Charles Yenkala; and four sisters, Eleanor Rich, Louise Scott, Elizabeth Allison and Marie Ford.
A lifelong devoted member of the Catholic faith, Alice Yeager was a dedicated homemaker and baker of sweet treats. She will be remembered by all who loved her as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, family member and friend.
<B>YEAGER</B> — Friends of Alice Jane (Yenkala) Yeager, who died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, will be received at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B> in Petrolia from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora at noon Monday, with Father Joseph Pudichary officiating.
