Butler Twp. storm sewer pipes to be repaired

BUTLER TWP — Commissioners voted to pay Holbein Inc. a little more than $218,500 to replace storm sewer pipes that cross Litman and McQuistion roads and in the area of Highfield near Butler Road that need to be fixed.

Township manager Tom Knights said the project will replace three pipes, one a thousand feet of 6-inch pipe that crosses several roads off Litman Road. The township received four bids for the project.

Knights said Litman Road will be closed during the project, as might other roads. Work is expected to start in May, and the project is set to be completed by end of summer.

“All those are existing pipes in terrible condition and need to be replaced,” Knights said.

Butler Township also received one bid from Wiest Asphalt and Paving to resurface several roads in the township at a cost of about $313,100.

The commission tabled the awarding of the bid, and it will be discussed at a future meeting. There are 10 roads under consideration for repaving, including Victor, Township Line, Beverly, Germaine, Barracks, Fairground Hill and Williams as well as Judson Avenue and Blair and Bellefield Drives.

Commissioners also voted to update the township’s fire code ordinance. Township solicitor Rebecca Black said the ordinance will be based on an international code.

Knights said the most recent fire code update is from 2018. He said the new ordinance clears up language pertaining to building safety inspections and told commissioners that nothing included is a substantial change from the ordinance currently in effect.

“It does accomplish bringing us up to the most current version of the international fire code,” Knights said. “It defines parameters for the scheduling of an administration of safety inspections.”
