William J. 'Bill' Hogan

William J. "Bill" Hogan, 71, of South Buffalo Township passed away peacefully at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at UPMC St. Margaret in Pittsburgh.

Bill was born in Natrona Heights, Aug. 24, 1938, the son of the late Joseph and Della Marie (Fratta) Hogan.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeport.

Bill had served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy as a senior chief petty officer after 22 years.

After his service to his country, he went to work for M.E.C.O., the Mill Equipment and Engineering Corp., in Pittsburgh for 15 years. After the plant's closure, he worked as a technical engineer at Allegheny Ludlum Steel for 10 years. Bill retired in 2008.

Bill was an avid gardener. He enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, swimming and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lola (Ruffner) Hogan; their three children, David A. Hogan and Joseph A. Hogan, both of South Buffalo Township, and Lynanne A. Hogan of Freeport; and their granddaughter, Angeline Jo Palmer of Freeport. He also is survived by his brother, Robert L. (Glenda) Hogan of Florida, and his sister, Kathy (Robert) Cassell of Apollo.

<B>HOGAN</B> — Family and friends of William J. "Bill" Hogan, who died Saturday, March 6, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the <B>Redmond Funeral Home</B>, 524 High St., Freeport. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. James F. Neal officiating.
