Shirley R. Smith, 72, of Manor, Westmoreland County, died Tuesday in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville.

She was born Nov. 25, 1936, in Butler, a daughter of the late James and Nellie McKissick Vasbinder and her stepfather, Leroy "Curley" Barber.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald L. Smith Sr.; two sons, James L. Smith and Stephen D. Smith; a daughter, Melanie S. Pizer; and a granddaughter, Jamie L. Pizer.

She is survived by a son, Ronald L. Smith Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Penn Township; three grandchildren, Ashlee Mathews and her husband, Bryan, Jacob Pizer and Shanna Smith; a brother, Joseph Vasbinder of San Antonio, Texas; and three sisters, Helen Kamerer, Donna Vasbinder and Mabel Duncan, all of Butler.

<B>SMITH</B> — Friends of Shirley R. Smith, who died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the <B>JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME</B>, 3343 Route 130, Harrison City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. John E. Ciampa officiating. Interment will follow in the North Butler Cemetery.
