Walter L. Tolfa

Walter L. Tolfa, 87, of North Loup, Neb., died Friday at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul, Neb.

Walter Louis Tolfa was born Dec. 5, 1920, at Herminie, Pa., to Angelo and Rosa (Vallecorsa) Tolfa.

He was raised in Pennsylvania, where he also received his education and graduated in 1940 from Aliquippa High School. After high school, he worked in the steel mill for a short time before he was drafted.

In September 1942, Walter entered the U.S. Air Corps. He was stationed in the United States during World War II and has honorably discharged in 1946.

On June 3, 1944, Walter was united in marriage to Muriel VanHorn at Grand Island, Neb. Following Mr. Tolfa's discharge from the service, the couple made their home in Aliquippa.

Mr. Tolfa operated a crane at J&L Steel Corp. from 1946 until 1975. In 1975, he retired and the couple moved to North Loup. While in North Loup, he worked as the maintenance man for the Nolo Villa.

Walter was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, the North Loup Lions Club and the Steel Workers Union.

He is survived by his wife, Muriel of North Loup; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Walter L. Tolfa and Joan of Butler, Michael Tolfa of La Vista, Neb., and Mark Tolfa of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Emileo Tolfa of Beaver Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Leo Tolfa; one sister, Yolanda Wakefield; and three infant siblings.

<B>TOLFA</B> — Visitation for Walter L. Tolfa, who died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, was Monday at the <B>Ord Memorial Chapel</B>. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Father Tom Ryan officiated. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at North Loup.Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
