Butler among counties to receive multimodal grant

Butler is among the 28 counties across Pennsylvania to receive Multimodal Transportation Fund grant money, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation.

Gov. Tom Wolf said Thursday that two county projects will receive part of the total $47.8 million in grant funding for highway, bridge, transit, bike and pedestrian projects across the state.

A project to improve culverts, repave the road surface and replace guardrails on Harvey Road in Buffalo Township will receive more than $333,000.

Improvements to Boydstown, Lake, Pine Tract, Mottern, St. Joe and Woodcrest roads and Thorn and Charlaine drives in Oakland Township will receive $663,450 in grant funds.

Correcting drainage issues and sagging roads and improving rideability are the improvements planned for those roads.

The release said PennDOT selected the projects to be awarded based on safety benefits, regional economic conditions, technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency and operational sustainability, among other factors.

“These investments will improve overall mobility and safety while bolstering commercial projects,” Wolf said.
