Butler falls to Hempfield

The Butler softball team put a scare into undefeated Hempfield in Section 2-6A action Monday afternoon at home.

Two days after losing by six runs to the Spartans on the road, the Golden Tornado made a much better showing at home. Butler tied the game in the sixth inning before giving up a run in the top of the seventh inning in a 3-2 loss.

The Golden Tornado (0-6, 0-5) rallied in the sixth inning on a two-run home run by Lilly Vicari. Butler struggled in the field, committing 10 errors and allowing Hempfield (9-0, 6-0) to collect seven hits.

Kelsey Ogin struck out five batters in the circle for the Golden Tornado. Spartans pitcher Riley Miller turned in a masterful performance, striking out 16 batters in seven innings of work.

A-C Valley 15, Union 0 — The Falcons (3-4, 3-3) plated 10 runs in the first inning and made short work of Union on the road. Mackenzie Burks collects four hits, drove in seven runs and had a double. Ava Burke was also 2-for-2, scored twice and drove in a run.

Freeport 9, McKeesport 0 — Abby Dejidas turned in an impressive effort at the dish and Sydney Selker from the circle for the Yellowjackets. Dejidas hit a pair of triples and a double, while Selker pitched all seven innings, allowing a single knock and striking out 14.

Karns City 6, East Forest 2 — The Gremlins fell behind in the initial frame before forging past the Bears with a four-run second inning. Rossi McMillen and Megan Whitmire doubled.

Allison Walker picked up the win with four innings of work, giving up three hits and one earned run.

Highlands 12, Knoch 11 — The Knights bowed late in this high-scoring clash with their Section 1-4A foe. Knoch notched 13 knocks, with Madi Gardner, Brynnae Coe, Lindsay Edwards, and Sophie Brandon all had multi-hit performances. Gardner belted a home run.
