Heat, water assistance extended
Because many in Pennsylvania remain in need of heat and water service assistance, the state Department of Human Services officials have extended Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) season by two weeks.
Meg Sneed, acting human services director, announced on Thursday that both LIHEAP and Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) benefits remain available until May 20.
Eligible households receive between $500 and $1,500 in LIHEAP heating bill assistance, according to a news release on the deadline extension.
The additional funds available during the extension are a result of American Rescue Plan Act.
LIHWAP is a temporary program meant to maintain access to drinking and wastewater services for families with past-due water bills, service terminations or shut-off notices.
LIHEAP and LIHWAP applications are available at energy.gov/energysaver/energy-saver.
