Roger M. Olthouse Sr.
Roger Martin Olthouse Sr. was a kind and gentle man, always willing to help friends and family.
He was the loving father of Doris and Roger Jr. and the grandfather of Patrick, Jill and Roger III and the great grandfather to Ashley and Reese.
He proudly served our country in the Army for five years, with duty in Italy and Africa.
Roger worked 35 years for R.R. Donnelly's and Sons in Chicago, Ill., as an offset printer.
He and his lovely wife Alice planned and built their retirement home in Port Charlotte, Fla., but God called Alice home all too soon. Roger was determined to enjoy his retirement, so he moved to Florida and enjoyed all of his new neighbors and friends.
Three years later he met Ann, and they married and enjoyed many years of traveling and entertaining friends and family.
As a young father, Roger made time for golf outings and lots of pool games with his son, Roger, and shopping and helping Doris with homework, and chauffeuring her and all her friends to dances. The family had many happy vacations and weekend trips to Grandma's house in Omro, Wis., and Grandpa's in Jackson, Mich. So many fun times at our uncle's farm, like selling sweet corn at the ferry.
He enjoyed all of the good times he spent with his grandson, Patrick. He loved his granddaughter, Jill, and grandson, Roger III, enjoying their phone calls and visits. He was so proud and blessed to have a beautiful 17-year-old great-granddaughter, Ashley, and a handsome 8-year-old great-grandson, Reese.
Roger loved all of the Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings with family and dear friends, Mary and Phillip Cohen.
Throughout his life Roger was an avid bowler, small game hunter and golfer. Roger always wanted order and organization in his life and expressed this in his lovely homes and daily living.
He had a long, happy life with a small family, but many co-workers, parents, cousins and lots of friends will be receiving him home with open arms.
