Dominick C. Savannah
Dominick C. "Red" Savannah, 97, of Butler passed away Saturday at his home.
Born in Lyndora on Sept. 7, 1912, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Frances Gallucci Savannah.
He was a plumber's helper at John R. Ellison and Sons, retiring in 1976 after 27 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the Sons of Italy, and Labor Union Local 323.
The love of his life was his family. He enjoyed singing and playing the lottery. His positive outlook on life influenced many people.
He is survived by his wife, Rita K. Nocera Savannah, to whom he was married for 60 years. They were married Sept. 10, 1949.
Also surviving are two sons, Charles E. Savannah and his wife, Linda, of Butler and Thomas Savannah and his wife, Sheila, of Deale, Md.; four grandchildren, Rachelle Savannah of Baltimore, Chad Savannah and his wife, Christina, of Coudersport, Pa., Corey Savannah of Butler and Tim Savannah of Coudersport; one great-granddaughter, Arabella Savannah of Coudersport; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
<B>SAVANNAH</B> — Friends of Dominick C. "Red" Savannah, who died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father James Dolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Michael Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of St. Michael will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home for a scriptural wake service.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to VNA Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
