Annabelle H. “Belle” Fleming, 88, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Renfrew, died at 11:35 a.m. Saturday in the Bayfront Medical Center.

Born Aug. 19, 1922, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Fred C. Herold Sr. and Martha (Dodds) Herold Stuby and the stepdaughter of David P. Stuby.

Mrs. Fleming was married Nov. 26, 1977, to Dale B. Fleming, who passed away May 12, 2009.

From 1965 to 1978, Mrs. Fleming was an executive secretary at the T.W. Phillips Gas and Oil Co. She then worked as a private secretary to B.D. Phillips Jr., retiring in 1990. Earlier in her career, she worked as an executive secretary for the Callery Chemical Co., the American Bantam Car Co. and Butler Memorial Hospital.

Annabelle graduated from Butler High School in 1940.

Mrs. Fleming was very active as secretary for the International Management Corp. of Butler County and was a founding director of the Endowment for Butler County, which she also served as its secretary until her retirement in 1990.

In 1984, she was awarded the Butler County Farm/City Bullshipper Award for the youth and family programs she introduced to the Big Butler Fair. In 2002, the Endowment for Butler County awarded her the Philanthropy Award for her inspiration, commitment and support while helping to establish the Endowment for Butler County.

Mrs. Fleming was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.

She lived in Butler County all of her life until her recent move to St Petersburg, Fla.

Besides her family and her extended families, her hobbies were cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and card playing. She also was an avid Steelers fan. She always loved horses and attended many horse-related events over the years. She was especially fond of the Haflinger horses that her husband raised on their farm in Connoquenessing Township.

Mrs. Fleming is survived by one son, Roger N. Oesterling of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Sylvia) Gucken of Northville, Mich., Mrs. Charles (Norma Jean) Norris II of Butler, Mrs. John (Rose Marie) Hanna of Butler and Ms. Pamela Mae Wiltgen of Grand Junction, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, one stepdaughter, Mrs. John (Rebecca) Oesterling of Butler; six step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank D. Herold of Lower Burrell and Fred C. Herold Jr. of Graniteville, S.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Alvin (Bertha) Rettig of Cabot, Mrs. Smith (Joan) Compton of Flagler Beach, Fla., and Ms. Mary Alice Herold of Burke, Va.

<B>FLEMING</B> — Friends of Annabelle H. “Belle” Fleming, who died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, will be received at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park followed by a reception at St. John’s Reformed Church, Meridian.Annabelle Fleming and her family request that memorial donations be directed to the nonprofit CANDLE Inc.
