Paul Levre Durnell

Paul Levre Durnell, 84, of Mercer, Springfield Township, Mercer County, and formerly of Worth Township, Butler County, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh.

He was born on May 6, 1929, in Slippery Rock, Worth Township, Butler County, to Charles Edward Durnell and Myrtle Edna Book Durnell.

He married Betty Jo Trowbridge on Aug. 13, 1955, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 1998.

Paul was a Protestant.

He was a forklift operator and retired in 1993 from Cooper Brothers of Slippery Rock, now called Sidleys.

He loved his slot machines, country music, watching studio wresting and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the best horseshoe player.

Survivors include his companion, Dorothy Kiester of Mercer; his five daughters, Brenda L. and her husband, Tim Murphy, of Manchester, Md., Geraldine Dixon and her companion, Ken Sybert, of Slippery Rock, Donna D. Piper and her companion, Dave Colton, of Slippery Rock, Bonnie L. Wright and her companion, Hank Knight, of Grove City and Dolly M. Ball and her companion, Paul Grove, of Mercer; his three sons, Dennis C. and his wife, Kim Durnell, of Harrisville, Fred L. Durnell and his companion, Dawn Bartley, of Slippery Rock and Lawrence P. Durnell and his companion, Debbie Czzowitz, of Butler; his brother, Charles Durnell of Slippery Rock; his two sisters, Donna Reges of Mercer and Betty Durnell of Butler; and his 22 grandchildren and his 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his brother, Dean; and two sisters, Arlene Agostino and Mae Eichenberger.

DURNELL — The family and friends of Paul Levre Durnell, who passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. The funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Richard Carlson pastor of the Balm United Methodist Church in Blacktown officiating. Interment will be at Slippery Rock Cemetery.
