William Melvin Kreutz

William Melvin Kreutz, 79, of Tionesta died of natural causes at 6:20 p.m. Monday at the home of his daughter.

He was a former member of the Slippery Rock School Board.

Born in Pittsburgh, Aug. 15, 1925, he was the son of Albert Louis and Ruth Dayton Kreutz.

He retired as plant manager at Erie Aggregates in Union City, Erie County. Prior to that, he had worked at Montgomery Block, Penn Grove Coal Co. and Emlenton Limestone.

Mr. Kreutz was a Protestant. He was a World War II era Navy veteran.

An avid camper, he spent his winters camping in Florida and was a member of the Pine Grove Rovers Camp & Club in the Grove City-Harrisville area. He was a 13-year volunteer for the Army Corps of Engineers at the Tionesta's Outflow Campground.

He was past president of the Slippery Rock Little League Association and was a charter member of the Moraine Sportsman Club. In addition to camping, he enjoyed motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats and fishing.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter, William G., Robert D. and Lisa K. Kreutz, all of Slippery Rock; four brothers, Albert Kreutz of Grove City and Elmer, James and Raymond Kreutz, all of Slippery Rock; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

His wife, Audrey Applebee Kreutz, whom he married Aug. 20, 1980, died Sept. 10, 2002. He also was preceded in death by his previous wife, Glenda Kay Hepler Kreutz, and three sisters.

KREUTZ - A memorial service for William Melvin Kreutz, who died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at West Liberty Presbyterian Church, Church Road, West Liberty. The Rev. Mark Frailey will officiate. Burial will be at Wattsburg Cemetery, Erie County. Arrangements are by SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Slippery Rock.
