Rita Seybert

Seybert

Rita M. Seybert, 95, of Sugarcreek Townhship, died Saturday, May 14, 2022, at her home.

Born March 13, 1927, in East Brady, she was the daughter of Mark C. and Anna R. (Miller) Smith.

On Nov. 10, 1947, Rita married Ronald A. Seybert. He preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1998.

Rita once worked for the U.S. Postal Service in East Brady and was the co-owner and manager of Seybert’s Garage in Bradys Bend for over 45 years.

A devoted member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Rita was the church organist for 25 years. She participated in the Altar Rosary Society, Parish Council, and taught CCD. She served on the Sugarcreek Township Election Board. At heart, Rita was an artist. In addition to raising 15 children, she created many beautiful works of art through music, knitting, sewing, painting and quilting.

She was the founder of River’s Bend Quilters Club. Her quilts were featured in numerous quilt shows across Western Pennsylvania. She was an accomplished, award-winning quilter. Yet none of these accomplishments defined the whole of who she was. Her love for and faith in her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ is her crowning glory.

Rita is survived by eight daughters, Katherine (Ted) Miller of Cowansville, Pa.; Susan Schneider of Venetia, Pa.; Martha (John) Wolff of Farragut, Tenn.; Anna (John) Sallade of Wyomissing, Pa.; Rita (Bill) Davis of Austin, Texas; Jane Seybert DiGiammarino of Rimersburg, Pa.; Amy (Jon) Herman of Titusville, Pa.; and Tricia (Devin) Winklosky of Gibsonia, Pa. She is also survived by six sons, Andrew (Karen) Seybert of Sugarcreek Township.; Thomas (Christine) Seybert of Dallas, Pa.; Joseph Seybert of Bridgeport, W.Va.; John (Mary Anne) Seybert of Cowansville, Pa.; Ronald (Jill) Seybert of State College, Pa.; and James (Kathi) Seybert of Charlotte, N.C.

Rita is also survived by one sister, Doris Anne Smith Montore; one son-in-law, Morris (Beanie) Shay; 47 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Mary Anne Shay; two brothers, Charles Smith and Norton Smith; and one sister, Helen Smith Greer.
