George M. Veremeychik

George M. Veremeychik, 87, of Brackenridge died at 11:16 p.m. Wednesday at the Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.

He was born March 4, 1924, in Brackenridge, the son of Mina and Anna Sudia Veremeychik.

He served in the U.S. Army, 43rd Infantry Division, in the Philippines and Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He was awarded two bronze stars. He worked as an accountant for PPG Industries and West Penn Hat & Cap.

Mr. Veremeychik was a member of the St. John Orthodox Catholic Church in New Kensington, the Slovak American Club in Brackenridge, the American Legion Post 226 in Tarentum, the VFW Post 5758 and the Tarentum Eagles.

He graduated from Har-Brack High School in 1942 and went to Robert Morris College on a basketball scholarship. He loved gardening, was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, all sports, ice skating and dancing.

He is survived by two daughters, Pamela S. (David) Strellec of Tarentum, and Mary Anna (Paul R.) Knechtel of Penn Township; five granddaughters, Christina S. (Randy) Simpson and Susan A. Strellec, both of Tarentum, and Hanna M., Emily B. and Olivia A. Lindsey of South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County; a great-grandson, Sabastian E. Simpson of Tarentum; two brothers, Paul M. Veremeychik of Brackenridge and Ted M. (Mary Lou) Veremeychik of Rochester, N.Y.; and a sister, Mildred M. Haney of Melbourne, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Muriel Eloise Nulph Veremeychik, who died Sept. 22, 2003.

<B>VEREMEYCHIK — </B>Friends of George M. Veremeychik, who died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the <B>DUSTER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum. A Blessing Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with a burial service at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Church, New Kensington, with the Rev. Paul R. Ziatyk officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Distant, Armstrong County.Parastas will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.The Brackenridge American Legion and the Tarentum VFW will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Allegheny Valley Hospital, 1301 Alabama Ave., Natrona Heights, PA 15065.Visit the website www.dusterfuneralhomeinc.com.
