An upset in the primary elections means neither Butler County Republican Committee chairman Al Lindsay nor internal vice chairwoman Trish Lindsay will return to their roles.

According to unofficial election returns provided by the county, Michael Oehlinger defeated Al Lindsay and will serve as Buffalo Township precinct 1’s committeeman on the committee. Jeanne Bauman Swaskoski defeated Trish Lindsay and will serve as the precinct’s committeewoman.

Oehlinger won by more than a two-to-one margin, 320 votes to 195 votes, according to the unofficial returns. Swaskoski beat Trish Lindsay 298 votes to 213.

Al Lindsay did not return a phone call seeking comment.

The Lindsays’ defeats were two of 11 contested races for county Republican committee roles. For committeemen, William J. Ferguson won in Adams Township 1, Bill Sommers won in Adams Township 3, Erik Hulick won in Center Township 1, James L. Wahl Sr. defeated his opponent in Forward Township and Terrance Berry appears to have won — by a six-vote margin — in Butler City 5.
