Joseph M. Stewart
Joseph M. Stewart Sr., 84, of Evans City died Saturday at his home.
Born July 24, 1922, in Gulf Port, Miss., he was the son of Joseph E. and Watta King Stewart.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and took part in the Normandy Invasion at Utah Beach. He was awarded a Bronze Star and the European-African-Middle Eastern, American and Asiatic Campaign medals.
Mr. Stewart was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Evans City for more than 50 years. He also was a member of American Legion Post 219 in Evans City; and he was a 32nd degree member of the F&AM.
He owned and operated Joseph M. Stewart Plumbing and Heating and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph M. Stewart Jr. and his wife, Mary and Larry Stewart, all of Evans City; two grandchildren, Gregg Stewart and his wife, Heather, of Butler, and Brandie Fleeger and her husband, Gary, of Renfrew; three great-grandchildren, Audrey Rose, Gracelyn Renee and Golden Marie Fleeger; and two step-grandchildren, Michael McCandless of Butler and Steven McCandless of Georgia.
His wife of 61 years, Marion Brophy Stewart, died Feb. 7, 2007. He also was preceded in death by a son, Wayne E. Stewart; two sisters; and a brother.
STEWART — Friends of Joseph M. Stewart Sr., who died Saturday, May 12, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 116 E. Main St., Evans City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Saylor, his church pastor, officiating.
