Earl LeRoy Young, 87, of Evans City Road died at 7:25 a.m. Saturday at VA Butler Healthcare.

Born July 2, 1922, in Butler, he was the son of the late Charles Young and the late Ann Bell Mortimer.

Mr. Young was a member of St. John's Reformed Church.

He worked in the cold mill department at Butler Armco. He retired in 1979 after 39Z\x years.

Mr. Young was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Second Engineer Special Brigade, serving in World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of the VFW Joseph T. Black Post 249 and the American Legion Michael Kosar Post 778.

Mr. Young enjoyed coffee with all of his Wal-Mart buddies, horse racing and poker, and his friends and family. He just celebrated his 87th birthday with more than 100 friends.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ethel B. Young; a son, Mr. Donald L. (Marjorie) Young of Seattle; and three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Janice M.) Reott of Aliquippa, Mrs. Ronald (Deborah A.) Palmer of Chicora, and Mrs. Gary (Sharon L.) Schneider of Butler.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Mrs. Michael (Ronee Ann) Haller, Maj. Daniel Palmer, Nichole Palmer, Matthew Schneider, Jared Schneider, Kelsey Schneider, and Mrs. Ryan (Lynn) Reott (wife of a deceased grandchild); four great-grandchildren, Cassie Haller, Mark Haller, Megan Johnson, Jack Reott; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by two sisters, Olive Smith and Mabel Walsh; a brother, Arthur Young; and a grandson, Ryan Reott.

<B>YOUNG</B> — Friends of Earl LeRoy Young, who died Saturday, July 18, 2009, were received Sunday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>.Services were today at VA Butler Healthcare with the Rev. Dr. Robert Peterson of St. John's Reformed Church officiating.
