Aloysius Florian 'Skip' Green

Aloysius Florian “Skip” Green, 83, of Butler died Wednesday morning at VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born on March 21, 1930, in Butler, he was a son of the late Norbert Green and Clara (Kuhn) Green.

Skip graduated from Butler High School and was a welder for 30 years for the Pullman Standard Car Co. in Butler. Following the closing of the plant, he worked as a self-employed home repair handyman and remodeler. Also, he worked for Butler Physical Therapy in maintenance and building upkeep for more than 20 years. He was an expert carpenter who was well known for his ability to build, remodel or fix just about anything.

He enjoyed camping and playing with grandchildren.

Skip was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman, and he was one of the first eucharistic ministers at St. Mary's and the People of God Prayer Group. He had a great devotion to St. Joseph and St. Anthony. He also had a special affection to the Blessed Mother and the rosary. During his extended illness, he spent many daily hours in prayer for others.

A veteran of the Korean War, Skip served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Viola “Min” (Varljen) Green, who he married May 23, 1953; his six children, David and Paula Green of Bluffton, S.C., Barbara and Frank Pinto of Butler, Susan and Randy Slopek of Fort Washington, Pa., Beth and John Perri of Maple Glen, Pa., Donald and Diane Green of Crittenden, Ky., and Amy and David Gallagher of Butler; 15 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. He also is survived by three brothers, Anthony Green, Gerard Green and Regis Green, all of Butler, and one sister, Grace Kriley of Butler.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Norbert, Bernard, Jerome, Joe and Vincent Green, and his sisters, Dorothy Beck and Sister Rita Green.

GREEN — Friends of Aloysius Florian 'Skip” Green, who died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 821 Herman Road, Butler, PA 16002 or to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
