U.S. Army Reserve servicemen and women placed flags on the graves of veterans at the Butler County Memorial Park and Mausoleum Wednesday afternoon.
According to Paul Simms, cemetery manager, a team from the reserve places the flags every year.
“There’s a technique that occurs with them placing it at the head of the grave,” he said. “We leave them up until around Labor Day.”
Not every cemetery honors their military in this way, Simms said.
“People say it looks fantastic. You see a field of red, white and blue when you approach the property,” he said. “Especially when the wind is blowing, it’s a blanketed sea of red, white and blue.”
