James L. Hopper
James L. Hopper, 81, a lifetime resident of Gibsonia, Richland Township, died peacefully Thursday.
Born April 1, 1927, in Gibsonia, he was a son of the late Archie and Lillie Ann (Gibson) Hopper.
A World War II Marine Corps veteran, Jim honorably served his country for over three years in the South Pacific.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gibsonia.
He was the owner of T&J Hopper Supplies in Gibsonia and retired in 1985 from the Richland Police Department after 35 years, the last six as chief of police.
Jim was active with the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, the Western Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, the North Hills Borough & Township Police Association, the John E. Mair Lodge 729 F&AM, NACO Caravan 19, the Syria Temple, Scottish Rite, the Hampton I.O.O.F. Odd Fellows, the Bakerstown American Legion Post 548, the Mars VFW and the Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Archie, Lawrence, John, and George; and three sisters, Genevieve Prymas, Alma Shoop and Marie Ferguson.
He was the beloved husband for 56 years of Sarah Marie (Geortz) Hopper, whom he married Aug. 4, 1951; father of Deborah A. (Richard) Lokay of Gibsonia, Diana L. (Bruce) Hufnagle of Parker, Thomas J. (Janice) Hopper of Gibsonia and Joy L. (Alan) Tsounos of Verona; brother of William (Audrey) Hopper of Florida, Helen (Nelson) Fugh of Mansfield and Wilma (Harry) Nelson of Gibsonia; and dear grandfather of Matthew and Richard Lokay, Amy (Mike) DeStefano, James Hopper, George and Jason Tsounos and Kayla Hufnagle. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and many friends.

Hopper, who died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, will welcome friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Schellhaas Funeral Home Ltd.</B>, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Bakerstown United Methodist Church.
