William 'Bill' Saul

William "Bill" Saul, 65, of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Butler, died Sept. 12 in Baltimore after a long illness.

Born Nov. 19, 1940, in Butler, he was the son of the late Craig and Ruth Saul Sr.

He was a two-sport star at Butler High School, where he graduated in 1958. In 1962, he graduated from Penn State University, where he played football and basketball.

Mr. Saul was the number three draft choice of the Baltimore Colts, where he played football for two years, before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played middle linebacker for six seasons. He then played one year for the New Orleans Saints and one year for the Detroit Lions.

He was inducted into the Butler Sports Hall of Fame in 1968.

Surviving are his ex-wife, Dorothy Blanch Saul; two children, Clifton Saul Sr. and Gail Klaben and her husband, Michael, and four grandchildren, Cliff Jr., Eric, Megan and Kristy. All are of Baltimore.

He also is survived by eight siblings and their spouses, Mary Elizabeth and Everett Brandon of Franklin, Craig Jr. and Alice Saul of Butler, Jean and Ernie Baxter, all of Butler, Dave and the late Alice Saul of Winter Park, Fla., Ray and Betty Saul of Butler, Rich and Eileen Saul of New Port Beach, Calif., Ron Saul of Charles Town, W.Va., and Joan and Dan Schomer of Boardman, Ohio.

<B>SAUL </B>— A memorial service for William "Bill" Saul, who died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W.
