Mars Borough mulls selling Church Street property

MARS — Borough council discussed selling a plot of land on Church Street owned by the borough at its meeting Monday night.

“We really don’t use it for anything, and we don’t really have a planned use for it,” council president Mike Fleming said.

Solicitor Chris Reese explained that council would need to sell the property through a process of accepting bids or by holding a public auction, according to the state code, unless the property is sold to another government agency or certain nonprofits.

Council has the authority to reject any bids for the property if they are deemed to be less than the fair market value of the property.

If the council decides to sell the property, it would need to approve a resolution of their intent to sell at future council meeting.

Council decided to table discussion of selling the property until next month’s meeting, as not all council members were present Monday night.
