Former booster president faces felony charges of theft, forgery
A former president of the Seneca Valley Youth Girls Lacrosse Booster Association has been accused of stealing thousands of dollars during her tenure, according to charging documents.
Adams Township Police filed charges May 25 against Elise Dreakford, 48, of Seven Fields, including six felony counts of forgery, two felony counts of theft and one felony count of possessing stolen property. She also is charged with two misdemeanor counts of theft.
Dreakford was arraigned on the charges May 26 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz and was released on $25,000 unsecured bond.
Police said discovery of the alleged thefts came after Dreakford resigned as president in March 2019, after which new leadership uncovered discrepancies in the association’s account.
“(The new president) checked the account and noticed a deposit in the amount of $10,500 which seemed suspicious,” police said. “Upon further investigation, she found that (the association) had spent $10,775 in July 2019 and $3,500 in August 2019.”
Police said the new president spoke with both the former and current treasurers at the time and neither was aware of the transactions. Police said the former treasurer resigned July 1, 2019, and on that day handed over the association’s financial documents and treasurer supplies.
“(The former treasurer) provided Dreakford with several boxes of supplies, (and) they signed several checks to finish out (the former treasurer’s) term and reconcile the books,” police said.
The new president told police that the association had approved only one account for its financial needs, and yet she uncovered multiple instances where checks were deposited by Dreakford into other accounts.
Police said there were six instances of Dreakford using checks that had the former treasurer’s signature on them.
“(The former treasurer) confirmed that she did not sign anything,” police said.
Dreakford is scheduled to appear June 21 for a preliminary hearing before Marcinkiewicz.
