Edwin 'Ed' L. Young Jr.

Edwin “Ed” L. Young Jr., 59, of Butler passed away at 6:10 p.m. Sunday at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia.

He was born July 28, 1952, in New Kensington, to the late Edwin L. Young Sr. and Velma Jean Cook Young.

Ed was a 1970 graduate of Valley High School, Arnold, and he earned an associate degree at the New Kensington Commercial School. He was a laser optician at II-VI in Saxonburg.

Ed was an emergency medical technician (E.M.T.) and a volunteer firefighter with several different companies. He also taught EMT and CPR classes at Butler County Community College.

He enjoyed reading and ceramics and owned and operated SIRamics. Ed enjoyed watching the Steelers and the Penguins.

He was a faithful follower of Jesus, rooted in the word. Ed was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot.

Ed is survived by his wife, Joyce K. (Deegan) Young, who he married Aug. 14, 1971; two sons, Jason T. Young and his wife, Tammy S., of Saxonburg and Timothy E. Young and his girlfriend, Megan Foley, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; one granddaughter, Aleah M. Young; one sister, Pamela Rankin and her husband, Larry, of Arnold, Md.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepparents and one sister, Violetta (Pinky) Miller.

<B>YOUNG </B>— Friends of Edwin “Ed” L. Young Jr., who passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Thompson- Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Luke Lutheran Church, 322 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, with the Rev. Barry Keurelainen officiating. Burial will be in the St. Luke's Cemetery, Cabot.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Greater Pittsburgh, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205 or the St. Luke Lutheran Church, 322 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, PA 16023.Information and a private guest book are available at www.thompson-miller.com.
