Rev. Donald B. Power

The Rev. Donald B. Power, 88, of Burgess Court, Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday in UPMCPresbyterian Hospital.

Born Dec. 20, 1919, in New Brighton, Pa., he was the son of the late Roy Emmett and Lillian Frick Power.

Power, a 1937 graduate of New Brighton High School, graduated from Thiel College in 1957 and was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in 1956. Power served St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Farrell, Pa., St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Youngstown, Pa., Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, West Deer Township, Pa., and St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Butler.

He is survived by his three sons, Darrell Power of Robertsdale, Ala., David (Faith) Power of Racine, Wis., and Mark (Nancy) Power of Gibsonia; his daughter, the Rev. Janice Altenburger of Ellwood City; ten grandchildren, Kevin Westland, Gretchen Reis, Wendy Altenburger, Helen Henderson, Nancy Power, Matthew (Megan) Power, Abby (Jacob) Blanc, Melissa Anderson, Tammi Kral, Brooke Anderson; seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Dale Power of Franklin, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Gibson Power, on June 24, 1986; by his second wife, Phyllis Colvin Rosendale Power, on April 15, 1997; and by his granddaughter, Lori Ann Altenburger.

Power, who died Thursday, July 17, 2008, will be received 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler.Services will be held at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church at 2:30 p.m. Sunday with Bishop Kurt Kusserow, the Rev. Reinhold Weber and the Rev. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Church officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Passavant Retirement Community, 401 S.
