Rev. Dale A. Wenzelburger
The Rev. Dale A. Wenzelburger, 72, of Palm Harbor, Fla., formerly of Butler, passed away Thursday.
Dale was born on Aug. 22, 1942, in Pittsburgh, to the late Harry and Martha Kuhn Wenzelburger.
Dale graduated from Thiel College in 1964 and from the Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1968.
He served LCA and ELCA parishes/positions in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Georgia and Florida. He completed study/training in the Lilly Endowment Foundation Training Program for Development Officers which prepared him for certification from the National Society of Fundraising Executives with CFRE honors.
He served as director of development at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Ga., and in Florida for the Tarpon Springs Hospital Foundation.
His community involvement included officer positions and boards of directors with the Palm Harbor Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Arts Center, Family YMCA, N.S.F.R.E. Board of Directors Vice President for Programs and Conference Planning Committee, Lutheran Social Services, American Red Cross, United Way Campaign County Director, Community Church Census Director, Lutheran Brotherhood, and many special fundraising capital campaigns.
In 1992, with family health concerns, Dale founded Thee Museum Shoppe on the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs and successfully created a unique, friendly experience for tourists and residents, until closing in 2008 with his retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Carol; his sister-in-law, Eleanor Smith of Butler; his brothers-in-law, Don Anderson of Horseheads, N.Y., and Jim Anderson of Brooklyn, N.Y., and his many nieces and nephews.
