Richard Ivin Johnstone

Richard Ivin Johnstone, 89, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Butler, died Saturday night at Canterbury Place in Pittsburgh after an illness.

He was born March 13, 1929, in Shaler, Pa., and was the son of Richard S. and Janet E. Miller Johnstone.

Richard was a heavy equipment salesman and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was an avid swimmer and loved spending time with his dog, “Laddie.” He also had been a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his two sons, Richard William (Gloria) Johnstone of Butler and Scott Johnstone of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Bonnie (Kim) Olar of West Sunbury; two sisters, Althea (Ed) Kessler of Glenshaw and Betty Slagel of Etna; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded by his first wife, Betty Jane Lightbody Johnstone, whom he married Sept. 10, 1952, and who died Dec. 5, 1999; and by his second wife, Sylvia Johnstone, who died in 2014.

JOHNSTONE — Visitation for Richard Ivin Johnstone, who died Saturday, July 21, 2018, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jay Bryan Funeral Home, 443 Main St., Prospect.Funeral services will be private and burial will be at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Prospect.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Honor Flight Pittsburgh at P.O. Box 266, West Sunbury, PA 16061, with Richard Johnstone in the memo.
