Emma Swallop
Emma “Lucy” Swallop, 98, of Butler passed away Wednesday at the Chicora Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 23, 1912, in St. Petersburg, Clarion County, the daughter of the late David and Lucy Jane (Wood) Edinger.
She was in the first graduating class at St. Petersburg High School. After graduation, she attended Clarion State Teachers College for a brief time.
Lucy enjoyed traveling in her earlier years, and playing cards and bingo.
She also was a Red Cross volunteer at Butler Memorial Hospital and was a former member of the Bethany Reformed Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Marjorie (Gene) Fleeger of Butler; and five grandchildren, Brian (Heather) Fleeger of Butler, Robert (Michele) Fleeger of Slippery Rock, Julie (Scott) Wetzel of Butler, Jeanie (JoeKnox) Reed of Saginaw, Texas, and Rebekah (Morris) Tackett of Stephenville, Texas. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Patsy Swallop of Saginaw, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Swallop, who passed away Aug. 14, 1988; a son, William; an infant daughter, Anita Lou; four brothers; and one sister.
