Walter William Reed

Walter William Reed, 88, of Ford City died Tuesday at the Armstrong County Health Center.

Born March 30, 1921, in Kittanning, he was the son of the late Harry G. Reed and Della Jane (Fox) Reed.

He was a lifetime resident of the Templeton, Kittanning and Ford City area.

Mr. Reed retired after 32 years with PPG. He also was a retired U.S. Postal Service contractor.

Mr. Reed was a World War II veteran.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Heilman Lutheran Church, where he was an active member while he was able.

He enjoyed gardening and reading.

He married Naomi Smeltzer on Jan. 7, 1956; and they established their home in Ford City, where they raised their children and lived for 53 years.

In addition to his wife, Naomi (Smeltzer) Reed of Ford City, surviving are a daughter and her husband, Karen (Reed) and Dan Toy of Butler; a son and his wife, Glenn and Sandi (Cousins) Reed of Ford City; grandchildren, Christopher Toy of Butler, Nicholas Toy of Butler, Ashley (Reed) Cornman of Echo, Armstrong County, Alicia (Reed) Palmer of Flemington, N.J., and Gavin Reed of Ford City; great-grandchildren, Lara Palmer of Flemington, N.J., Kira Palmer of Flemington, N.J.; a sister, Dorothy (Bill) Edwards of Lewiston, Idaho; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Reed of Kittanning and Phyllis Reed of Kittanning; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles, Delbert, Donald and Paul Reed; and a sister, Bertha (Reed) Satterfield.

<B>REED </B>— Friends of Walter William Reed, who died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home</B> in Kittanning. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Emmanuel Heilman Lutheran Church, where visitation also will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Joan Armstrong, church pastor, will officiate.
