Web update mulled
BUFFALO TWP — Freeport School District may be getting a new Website that is less costly but with enhanced features.
The school board on Wednesday will consider a proposal from SchoolPointe of Columbus, Ohio, to provide the new Website for an initial $7,800 payment, which includes the setup fee and annual cost. The subsequent two years of a proposed contract would be a $3,900 annual expense.
The current Website is provided by Schoolwires of State College for an annual $6,154 cost.
Dan Lucovich, school board president, said in an interview the switch is likely to occur.
“We'll probably support it,” he said.
Lucovich said there were no detractors when the topic was discussed at the meeting last Wednesday.
“Nobody opposed it,” he said.
Along with eventual cost savings, Lucovich said the new site would be easier to navigate and include features such as captions and text-to-speech for people with disabilities.
“Everything is a plus,” he said.
Lucovich said the new site also would promote more happenings in the district.
He said the new site, if approved, would appear before the new school year begins in the fall.
According to Lucovich, Schoolwires also submitted a proposal to add features to the existing Website, but at a higher cost than SchoolPointe.
The district uses an emergency notification system of texting, emails and phone calls to alert parents to such occurrences as school closings.
