Mildred Schaffer

Mildred Catherine Schaffer, 86, a 40-year resident of Timberly Heights, Center Township, died Tuesday at Neighborhood Hospice, West Chester, Pa.

She was born Nov. 7, 1925, in Pine Township, Indiana County, to Celestine and Josephine Phillips Farabaugh and was raised on her family's farm outside Heilwood. She was a graduate of Pine Township High School.

She was a long-time member of the St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church in Butler, where she lived for more than 40 years until moving closer to her children in 2009. In Butler, she was a regular volunteer for Meals on Wheels and also worked in the Butler Symphony's Thrift Shop. She was a long-time legal assistant for attorney Al Lindsay Jr. She was a golfer and an avid bridge player.

She is survived by her four children, Janice Schaffer and her husband, Thomas Frail, of Bethesda, Md.; Thomas Schaffer of West Chester, Pa.; Daniel Schaffer and his wife, Rebecca Rosier, of East Greenwich, R.I., and Scott Schaffer and his wife, Maria, of West Chester, Pa.; her grandchildren, Beth and Kristin Schaffer, Scott Schaffer and Christina Schaffer Szerlip, and Emmett and Patrick Frail; her siblings, Marian Creps of Indiana, Ruth Rydberg and her husband, Ted, of Spring Hill, Fla., Donald and his wife, Joan, of Columbia, Md., Rose Mary Taylor and her husband, Dennis, of Hudson, Ohio, and Thomas and his wife, Martha, of Punxsutawney; and her stepbrother, Francis Duncan and his wife, Della, of Apopka, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Schaffer; parents; stepmother, Mabel Duncan Farabaugh; sister, Geraldine Weiland; and brother James Farabaugh.

SCHAFFER — A Mass of Christian burial for Mildred Catherine Schaffer, who died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Ext., Butler, with the Rev. James Salberg as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.Contributions in her memory may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, Fla. 33136-1494.
