June 28, 1889 — Oct. 25, 1980Harold Willis Dodds was born in Utica, in Venango County, in 1889.His father was a professor of Bible studies at Grove City College, where Dodd received his bachelor's degree in 1909. He earned his Master of Arts degree from Princeton in 1909 and his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1917.Dodd served in the U.S. Food Administration during World War I and taught at Western Reserve University afterward. In 1925, Dodds became a professor of politics at Princeton University.In 1930, he was appointed the chairman of the School of Public and International Affairs and in 1933 was appointed the president of the university.He retired in 1957 and died in 1980.
