Harry Robert Gold, 83, loving husband and father, of Erie, died Tuesday at the Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie.

Born May 27, 1924, in Butler, he was a son of Charles Delhart Gold and Annie Gold Miller and a stepson of Arthur M. Miller.

He graduated from Butler High School in 1943. While in high school, he was employed by Warner Bros. as assistant manager of the Butler Theater from 1940 to 1943.

Mr. Gold served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 as a private first class in the 45th Infantry Division, 180th Battalion, "L" Co. In addition to serving in combat in Africa and Italy, he also served in the military police. His military decorations and citations included the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal. He also was awarded various other medals and ribbons, including the Combat Infantry Badge, of which he was most proud.

Following his honorable discharge from the service in 1946, he owned and operated a grocery and confectionary store in Butler.

He went on to attend Westminster College and graduated from Thiel College with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1952. While in college, he belonged to various organizations, including Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Upon graduation, he went to work for the Atlantic Refining Co. as a marketing representative and also served as a training school instructor for the company. He retired in 1976. He then worked for the Willis Distributing Co. as a division manager and later, for the Denis Copy Co.

He had a strong work ethic and was described by his employers as possessing initiative, ambition and the capability of handling personnel and details of business operations.

He was a wonderful husband, father and provider. His primary concern was attending to his family's well-being and making sure their needs were met. He enjoyed yardwork and maintaining the family's home. He also enjoyed reading the newspaper, listening to the news and hearing about daily events in the lives of his wife and daughters and son-in-law.

He was a member of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Erie, where he was an usher for years. He also was a life member of the Erie Maennerchor Club.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Alice Wally Gold; and two daughters, Mary Ann Gold, his devoted caregiver, and Carolyn E. Gold Klein and her husband, Douglas E. Klein, all of Erie. In addition, he is survived by two sisters, Twila M. Gold Klugh and her husband, Duane R. Klugh, and Helen L. Gold Pringle and her longtime companion, Harry Barnes, all of Butler; a brother-in-law, Max Weisberg of Beechwood, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Gold Weisberg.

He was always highly complimentary of the health care services he received at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Erie. On his behalf, the family extends their thanks to the physicians, nurses and support staff there. Also, the family extends their thanks to the Saint Vincent Heart Center for the excellent and compassionate care provided.
