Matthew Cirilli
Matthew R.A. Cirilli, priest in the Diocese of Pittsburgh for 45 years, died on April 29, 2021, at the age of 82.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Annabella Cirilli; and his siblings, Francis and Lois Cirilli.
He is survived by his caretaker of 40 years, Consuelo Castillo; his sister-in-law, Maureen Cirilli; his niece and nephew, Jeanine and Jason Cirilli; and good friends, Barbara and Francis Greco, whose lives he touched deeply.
He attended St. Rosalia Elementary School and St. Fidelis High School.
He then pursued further education at St. Fidelis College, received his Licentiate in sacred theology from St. Mary University in Baltimore in 1964, and continued his studies at St. Vincent Seminary through 1969. He was ordained on May 9, 1964, by Bishop John Wright at St. Paul Cathedral.
He served as Parochial Vicar (St. Sylvester Parish 1964-1969, St. Paul Cathedral Parish 1969-1970), was a missionary (Peru, South America 1970-1976), chaplain (Youth Development Center, Lawrence County 1976-1979), and pastor (Mother of Sorrows Parish of McKees Rocks 1979-1986, St. Rose of Lima Parish of Darlington 1986-1994, St. Michael of the Archangel Parish of Butler 1994-2000). He was also chaplain of the Serra Club (2007-2009).
Father was an avid golfer and big Pittsburgh sports fan.
CIRILLI — Viewing Matthew R.A. Cirilli, who died Thursday, April 29, 2021, will be held at 9 a.m. Friday followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Cathedral Parish, St. Rosalia Worship Site, with the Most Rev. Bishop David A. Zubik DD, Bishop of Pittsburgh as celebrant.
