Donald Gilmore Jr.

Donald E. “Don” Gilmore Jr., 60, of McKeesport, formerly of Petrolia, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at his home.

Donald was born Dec. 8, 1960, in Butler. He was the son of the late Donald E. Sr. and Ruth Ann Benesh Gilmore.

He was a 1978 graduate of Karns City Area High School.

He had been a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora.

Don had been employed designing swimming pools, as well as in maintenance, general contracting and masonry. He was a “Dead Head,” having been an avid Grateful Dead fan.

He was an avid bicyclist and had been a trail monitor for various bike trails in Allegheny County.

Don had an encyclopedic knowledge of Indy cars, NASCAR and NHRA drag racing. He enjoyed the company of his faithful companion, his cat, “Puppy Dawg.”

He is survived by his daughter, Tricia Gilmore Evans, and her husband, John, of Pittsburgh; a grandson, John Evans; his uncle and aunt, John “Jack” and Lane Benesh of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Maria A. Ray of Petrolia; and his nephew, Chase Hunter Pope of West Sunbury.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marlene Gilmore Pope; and his niece, Nicole Gaudin.

GILMORE — A private committal service for Donald E. “Don” Gilmore Jr., who died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, will be held in Bear Creek Cemetery in Petrolia, and will be officiated by the Rev. Lou Pascazi, senior parochial vicar of St. Clare of Assisi Parish.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City.
