One person flown to Allegheny hospital after crash on Route 8

BUTLER TWP — One person was flown to Allegheny General Hospital Thursday evening after a four-car crash near the intersection of Route 8 and McCalmont Road.

Another person was taken by Butler Ambulance Service to Butler Memorial Hospital from the crash, according to Butler Township police.

Police said they didn’t know the severity of the injuries.

According to police, an SUV carrying a few people may have driven head-on into three other cars at the intersection.

The SUV had heavy front-end damage and was towed. A small black car had heavy rear-end damage and also was towed.

Police said they could not immediately provide the total number of people involved in the crash.

Butler Township Volunteer Fire District also responded to the crash.

The southbound lane of Route 8 was closed to one lane near the intersection and firefighters directed traffic while police investigated at the scene, which was cleared around 8 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
