Mary Duffy

Mary McCarren Duffy, 85, of Duarte, Calif., died Monday.

Born in Butler, July 13, 1921, she was the oldest of four children born to Charles and Harriet McCarren.

She was an outstanding volunteer at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Arcadia, Calif.; and was honored by Catholic Charities of Los Angeles in 2001 for her years of volunteer work. She also was also a volunteer at the Santa Teresita Medical Center in Duarte, Calif., and received her 1,000 hours badge.

Mrs. Duffy had many friends and loved playing bridge and golf. She was a good neighbor and shared her backyard swimming pool every summer. Many people came for barbecues, swimming, shuffleboard and horseshoes.

Surviving are her children, Charles Duffy, Mary Andrusky, Patricia Baker, Maureen Goettlich and Kathleen, Michael and Anne Maria Duffy; grandchildren, Vincent and Robert Duffy, John and David Baker, Mary Jo Yi, Jeanne Baker, Stephen Andrusky and Kerry Goettlich; and great-grandchildren, Clayton Yi and Jacob and Brian Baker.

She also is survived by two brothers, Charles and Patrick McCarren, both of Butler; and a sister, Jean Schaffner of Annapolis, Md.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Vincent E. Duffy, and their son, Vincent, who was killed in Vietnam in 1970.

<B>DUFFY </B>— A memorial Mass for Mary McCarren Duffy, who died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the Holy Angels Catholic Church.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manor Remodeling Fund, Santa Teresita Medical Center, 819 Buena Vista St., Duarte, CA 91010, attention Sister Francis Marie.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Douglass & Zook Mortuary</B>, Monrovia, Calif.
