Strong storms roll through

While the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh issued a tornado watch for the wee hours of Monday morning in several counties including Butler, the more-severe tornado warning never followed.

However, the severe thunderstorm warning that was in effect from 2:30 to 3:30 a.m. was accurate, as loud storms containing heavy rain blew through the county during the overnight hours.

Jenna Lake, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, said no damage from the startling storms was reported to her office.

The heat that precipitated the storms was uncomfortable for many, but Lake said no high-temperature records were broken over the balmy weekend.

Showers and storms are expected to shadow the county in the coming days. According to the forecast, rain is possible Tuesday through Friday.

Tuesday’s high will approach 77, and Wednesday projects a high of 81 degrees, with a chance of precipitation at 70%. Rain accumulation is estimated between a tenth-inch and a quarter-inch.

The chance of showers decreases to 50% Thursday and 30% Friday, but thunderstorms are added to the mix of possibilities at the week’s end.
