Hazel R.W. Nicklas
Hazel R. Williams Nicklas, 88, of the LAS St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars, formerly of Renfrew, passed away Saturday afternoon in UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless Township.
She was born Sept. 1, 1920, in West Newton, the daughter of the late Charles T. and Jenny Baer Williams.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Connoquenessing, where she was a former Sunday school teacher.
She retired from the A.A. Center, Butler, and had formerly worked at Camp Redwing for the Girl Scouts of Southwest Pennsylvania.
She enjoyed quilting and needlecraft. She also was an avid bowler. In the spring and summer, she enjoyed gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Nicklas Sr., who died Dec. 8, 1983; a granddaughter; a son-in-law; and nine brothers and sisters.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Bartley (Verel) of Prospect, Kay Pfile (Richard) of Clarksburg, Md., and Ruth Schreffler of Renfrew; two sons, Howard Nicklas (LaVern) of Renfrew and William Nicklas (Kathy) of Kodiak, Alaska; two sisters, Cora Stevick of Mars and Grace Turner of Volant; a brother, Charles Williams (Florence) of Evans City; 14 grandchildren, Elaine Bartley-Csupak, Dauna Bartley-Spana, Janet Nicklas Reed, Linda Nicklas Carson, Keith Nicklas, Edwin Nicklas, Alisha Nicklas McKinney, Barry Seth Jr., Dayne Seth, Jennifer Pfile-Bromagen, Timmi Jesteadt Longdon, Michael Jesteadt, Tammy Schreffler and Tina Schreffler; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
<B>NICKLAS</B> — Friends and relatives of Hazel R. Williams Nicklas, who died Saturday, May 9, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home</B>, 328 W. Main St., Evans City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from St. John's Lutheran Church, Connoquenessing, with the Rev. Gary Brown, her pastor, officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the church.
