John T. 'Jack' Austin Sr., board chair of James Austin Co.
John T. “Jack” Austin Sr., 86, of Mars died Wednesday evening at his home.
Jack was chairman of the board of the James Austin Co. in Mars.
Born in Pittsburgh, Sept. 24, 1925, he was the son of the late Harry G. and Mazie Teufel Austin.
He graduated from Randolph-Macon Academy in 1944. He went into the Army after graduation and was discharged in 1945.
He then began working for the family business, along with his brother, Harry, at the James Austin Co.
Jack was a past president of both the James Austin Co. and the Smaller Manufacturers Council. He also served on the board of directors of Penn-Mar Plaza for 10 years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown.
He was the loving husband of 62 years of Jean L. Anderson Austin, who he married July 2, 1949; beloved father of Lisa Austin (Greg) of Tarentum and John T. Austin (Carrie) of Mars; adoring grandfather of Ryan and Robbie Henderson and Jack and Lindsay Austin; dear brother of the late Harry G. Austin Jr., Madeline Samarco of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Dr. James Austin of Salem, Mass.; and brother-in-law of Roseann Austin of Gibsonia. Also surviving are nieces and nephews.
<B>AUSTIN</B> — Friends of John T. “Jack” Austin Sr., who died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, will be received at <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, 5825 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, PA 15007, 724-443-1555. The Rev. Dan Muttart, pastor, the Rev. Dr. Richard Morledge, pastor emeritus, and the Rev. Donn Ed, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Etna, will officiate. Everyone is to please meet at the church.
