Peter Bistransin
Peter Bistransin, 82, of Greenville passed away Monday in the Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
He was born Aug. 22, 1928, in Butler, to the late Michael and Anna Povlick Bistransin.
He attended Butler High School, where he was a standout athlete.
After enlisting in the Navy at 17, he served on the USS Toledo and later was pulled from duty to represent the Toledo as a swimmer and water polo player. In 1948, he tried out for the Olympics.
After his discharge, he enrolled at Thiel College, where he earned a bachelor's degree and was a dominant linebacker and a member of the 1950 undefeated football team. He was a member of the Thiel College and the Butler High School athletic halls of fame.
A scouting executive, he began his association with the Boy Scouts as a child in 1939. He worked for the BSA for 38 years and was a fundraising consultant for 10 years after his retirement in 1990.
He was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Greenville, the Knights of Columbus and the Serra Club of Mercer County.
He was active with the Greenville Rotary and received the Paul Harris Award. He served on the board of the Northern Mercer County United Way and belonged to the American Legion, VFW and the Delta Sigma Phi.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Bonace Bistransin, who he married Oct. 8, 1955; children, Cat Bistransin of New York, N.Y., Becky Bistransin of Sharon, Peter M. Bistransin of Austin, Texas, Jim Bistransin of San Marcos, Texas, John Bistransin and his wife, Beth, of Allen, Texas, Mark Bistransin and his wife, Dottie, of Columbia, Md., and Dan Bistransin of Stoughton, Mass; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Boros of Butler.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Andrew, Michael, George and Charles Bistransin, Mary Bruck and Helen Kreuntz

Karg as celebrant.
