Ralph H. Scherer
Ralph H. Scherer, 90, of Penn Township, formerly of Cowansville and Pittsburgh's Northside, died Wednesday afternoon at Elmcroft of Saxonburg.
Born Dec. 14, 1925, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mathilda Killmeyer Scherer.
Ralph had been the founder and owner of Scherer Locksmiths in Pittsburgh.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Cowansville American Legion. He also belonged to Teutonia Mannerchor in Pittsburgh.
Ralph enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Hahn Scherer; his daughter, Nancy Lapp (Robert); two sons, Ralph K. Scherer (Catherine) and Dale W. Scherer (Janet), all of Valencia; his grandchildren, Katie, Kurt, Megan, Ashley, Lindsay and Erin; his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Maci and Max; two sisters, May Helmstaedter of Zelienople and Dorothy Scherer (Bob) of Beaver; two brothers, Regis Scherer (Peggy) of Gibsonia and James Scherer (Sandy) of Pittsburgh; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Nickl and Betty Scherer; and his brothers, Robert, Benjamin, Herman and Charles “Ed” Scherer.
