Man charged after encounter with mail driver
A man is accused of assaulting a U.S. Postal employee last week during a roadside altercation in Connoquenessing Township.
State police filed charges against Todd L. Hovis, 56, of Chicora, including misdemeanor counts of simple assault and reckless endangerment.
Hovis was arraigned Wednesday by District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz, who released him on $5,000 unsecured bond.
According to charges, police talked with the mail truck driver Wednesday morning near the scene of the incident on Whitestown Road.
The driver told officers Hovis had pulled over at 10:55 a.m., exited his vehicle and walked up to the mail truck.
“Hovis yelled ‘Don’t you know how to drive?’ after which he reached in the vehicle and grabbed the (mail driver) saying ‘Get out of here,’” police said. “Hovis continued to yell and approached the (mail driver) a second time at which time he struck him in the face.”
Hovis is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Aug. 23 before Marcinkiewicz.
