Man dies in Sunday night crash in Clay Township
State police say speed may been in a factor in a two-vehicle crash that killed a 25-year-old Butler County man Sunday night in Clay Township.
Daniel J. Abbott died in the wreck shortly before 8 p.m. on Hall Road about one-quarter mile east of Beaver Dam Road, authorities said. Abbott's exact address was unknown.
No other injuries were reported.
Authorities said Abbott was traveling west on Hall Road at a “high rate of speed” when his Jeep sideswiped a sedan in the opposing lane. He lost control of his vehicle and overturned multiple times.
The Jeep rolled between 150 and 200 yards from the initial impact with the car, according to emergency crews, before ending up against a tree.
Abbott was not wearing a seat belt, according to police, and was thrown out of the vehicle during the crash. He was found about 25 feet from his vehicle.
First responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before a Butler Ambulance Service crew took him to Butler Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead of injuries in the crash, authorities said.
Trevor L. Donaldson, 18, the other driver, and his passenger, a 16-year-old girl, both of Slippery. Rock, were both wearing seat belts.
The wreck closed the road for between two and three hours. The West Sunbury and Unionville volunteer fire departments assisted police. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
