Williard Elroy Datt
Williard Elroy “Red” Datt, 85, of Slippery Rock Township died Wednesday at the Grove City Medical Center.
He was born June 17, 1925, in Evans City to William Phillip Datt and Blanche Catherine Winters.
He married Eileen Emily Reed on Sept. 19, 1953.
He graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1943. He was self-employed as a dairy farmer and carpenter. He also was the caretaker for the Center Presbyterian Church for 20 years, where he was a member. During that time, he served as an elder, a trustee, a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.
He never missed voting in local and national government elections for more than 50 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, gardening, working outside, woodworking and watching Pirates baseball.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Shirley D. Edmondson and her husband, Boyd, of Marienville and Linda M. Hunter and her husband, Glenn, of Grove City; and two grandchildren, David T. Hewitt and Matther A. Edmondson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Katie M. Edmondson; two brothers, Stanley M. Datt and Glenn E. Datt; and one son-in-law, Thomas J. Hewitt.
<B>DATT</B> — A celebration of life for Williard Elroy “Red” Datt, who died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, will be a Center Presbyterian Church, 211 Center St., Slippery Rock at 4 p.m. Sunday with Rev. William Mumaw officiating. The family will greet friends and family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Internments will be at Slippery Rock Cemetery.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>.Memorial contributions may be given to the Center Presbyterian Church for mission outreach.
